O Allah! Indeed, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell, from the punishment of the grave, from the trial of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of al-Masih ad-Dajjal.
Sahih al-Bukhari, no. (1377), Sahih Muslim, no. (588), Darussalam numbering (1324), the wording is his, Sunan an-Nasa'i, no. (5514).
The original book has the words “عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ” before “عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ”, but we did not find this in any hadith with the context given; with this change of order, however, all the words of the hadith match the cited hadith of Sahih Muslim exactly.
O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, I seek refuge in You from the trial of al-Masih ad-Dajjal, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of life and death. O Allah! I seek refuge in You from sin and from debt.
O Allah! Indeed, I have wronged myself greatly, and none forgives sins except You, so forgive me with a special forgiveness from You and have mercy on me. Indeed, You are the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
O Allah! Forgive me what I have done before and what I have done after, what I have done in secret and what I have done openly, what I have done in excess, and what You know better than I do. You are the One who brings forward (each thing to its place) and You are the One who puts back (from it); there is no deity except You.
Sahih Muslim, no. (771), Sunan at-Tirmidhi, no. (3421).
The narration of Muslim, at-Tirmidhi and others states clearly that the Prophet ﷺ used to say this supplication within the prayer, before the salam. But this very hadith is in Sunan Abi Dawud, no. (760), and it says that he ﷺ used to say it after the salam. This is a mistake of the narrator; the correct position is what is in Sahih Muslim and others.
Sahih, Sunan Abi Dawud, no. (1522), Sunan an-Nasa'i, no. (1303), and al-Albani graded it Sahih in “Sahih Abi Dawud” (5/253) no. (1362).
Sunan an-Nasa'i states clearly “في كل صلاة”, that is, saying it within the prayer, which explains the words of Sunan Abi Dawud “دبر كل صلاة”: they mean the last part within the prayer.
O Allah! Indeed, I seek refuge in You from miserliness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice, I seek refuge in You from being returned to the most feeble stage of life, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of this world and the punishment of the grave.
Sahih al-Bukhari, no. (2822), the wording is his, and no. (6390), where the words in square brackets are found, Sunan an-Nasa'i, no. (5478), where the whole wording is found.
Sahih, Sunan Abi Dawud, no. (792), the wording is his, Sunan Ibn Majah, no. (910) and no. (3847), and al-Albani graded it Sahih in “Sahih Abi Dawud” (3/377) no. (757). The 'an'anah of al-A'mash from Abu Salih is accepted. For details see: Anwar an-Nasihah (d/792).
O Allah! By Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over creation, keep me alive as long as You know that life is better for me, and take my soul when You know that death is better for me. O Allah! Indeed, I ask You for fear of You in private and in public (in both states); I ask You for the ability to speak the word of truth in contentment and in anger (in both states); I ask You for moderation in poverty and in wealth; I ask You for a blessing that never ends; I ask You for a coolness of the eyes that never ceases; I ask You for contentment with Your decree; I ask You for the coolness of life after death; and I ask You for the pleasure of looking at Your Face and for a longing to meet You, (which) I (may) attain without any harmful distress or misleading trial. O Allah! Adorn us with the adornment of faith and make us guides who are rightly guided.
The reciter says “fil-ghinaa wal-faqr” (wealth, then poverty) instead of “fil-faqri wal-ghinaa”.
Sahih, Sunan an-Nasa'i, no. (1305), the wording is his, Sahih Ibn Hibban, no. (1971), where the addition in square brackets is found, Musnad Ahmad (4/264), and al-Albani graded it Sahih in “Takhrij al-Kalim at-Tayyib” no. (106).
The original book has “فِي الْغِنَى وَالْفَقْرِ”, which is the wording of al-Mustadrak of al-Hakim (1/524) and others, but in Sunan an-Nasa'i, Sahih Ibn Hibban and Musnad Ahmad the wording is “فِي الْفَقْرِ وَالْغِنَى”, so that wording has been given.
O Allah! I ask You, O Allah, because You are the One, the Unique, the Self-Sufficient Master, who neither begets nor is born, and to whom none is equal. (I ask You) to forgive me my sins. Indeed, You are the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
Sahih, Sunan an-Nasa'i, no. (1301), the wording is his, Sunan Abi Dawud, no. (985), and al-Albani graded it Sahih in “Sahih Abi Dawud” (4/140) no. (905).
O Allah! Indeed, I ask You because all praise belongs to You. There is no deity except You alone; You have no partner. (You are) the Bestower of favours beyond measure. O Originator of the heavens and the earth! O Possessor of majesty and honour! O Ever-Living! O Self-Subsisting! Indeed, I ask You for Paradise and I seek refuge in You from the Fire.
Sahih, Sunan an-Nasa'i, no. (1300), the wording is his, Sunan Ibn Majah, no. (3858), where the first addition is found, al-Adab al-Mufrad of al-Bukhari, ed. Abd al-Baqi (page 246), where the second addition is found, al-Mustadrak of al-Hakim, Indian edition (1/504), where the last addition is found, Sunan at-Tirmidhi, no. (3544), and al-Albani graded it Sahih in “Asl Sifat as-Salah” (3/1017).
O Allah! Indeed, I ask You because I bear witness that You are Allah; there is no deity except You, the Unique, the Self-Sufficient Master, who neither begets nor is born, and to whom none is equal.
Sahih, Sunan at-Tirmidhi, no. (3475), the wording is his, Sunan Abi Dawud, no. (1493), Sunan Ibn Majah (3857), and al-Albani graded it Sahih in “Sahih Abi Dawud” (5/229) no. (1341).
