The virtue of visiting the sick

Guidance 1

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“When a man goes to visit his sick Muslim brother, he walks among the fruits of Paradise until he sits down. When he sits, mercy covers him. If it is morning, seventy thousand angels keep praying for him until the evening, and if it is evening, seventy thousand angels keep praying for him until the morning.”

  1. Sahih, Sunan Abi Dawud, no. (3098), Sunan at-Tirmidhi, no. (969), Sunan Ibn Majah, no. (1442), Musnad Ahmad, Maymaniyyah edition (1/81), the wording is his, and al-Albani graded it Sahih in as-Sahihah no. (1367).

Shu'bah narrated it from “al-Hakam bin Utaybah”, and this narration is then reported through many of Shu'bah's students, so the objection to al-Hakam's 'an'anah is not correct, and al-A'mash is not in this chain. Moreover, it has many chains; for details see the author's original book with the takhrij of Shaykh Yasir bin Fathi al-Misri [adh-Dhikr wa ad-Du'a' ... (1/423-428)].

However, there is a difference over whether it is marfu' or mawquf, but the words are not a matter of personal reasoning, so the mawquf narration also has the ruling of marfu'. Shaykh Yasir bin Fathi al-Misri has also presented several mawquf narrations, for example: Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, ed. ash-Shathri, no. (11150), and declared its chain sahih.
