Allah's Messenger said: “When any of you sees something pleasing in his brother, in himself or in his wealth, [he should supplicate for blessing for it], for the evil eye (taking effect) is real.”
Sahih, Musnad Ahmad (3/447), the wording is his, Sunan Ibn Majah, no. (3509), al-Mustadrak of al-Hakim, Indian edition (4/215), and the addition in square brackets is in both of them, Muwatta' Malik, ed. Abd al-Baqi (2/938), and al-Albani graded it Sahih in “as-Sahihah” no. (2572).
