Supplication on sighting the new moon

اَللّٰهُمَّ اَهِلَّهٗ عَلَيْنَا بِالْاَمْنِ وَالْاِيْمَانِ وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْاِسْلَامِ رَبِّيْ وَرَبُّكَ اللّٰهُ

O Allah! Let it rise upon us with security and faith, with safety and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah.

1. Hasan li-ghairihi, al-Mustadrak of al-Hakim, Indian edition (4/285), the wording is his, Sunan at-Tirmidhi, no. (3451), from the hadith of Talhah, Sunan ad-Darimi, no. (1729), from the hadith of Ibn Umar, and al-Albani graded it Hasan in “as-Sahihah” no. (1816). For details see: Anwar an-Nasihah (t/3451).

   The author quoted the words of ad-Darimi, but we have given the words of al-Hakim, which are present in all the narrations. Since the chain of each narration on its own has some weakness, the words found in only one narration will be counted as lacking support, and only the words common to all the narrations can reach the grade of Hasan li-ghairihi.
