Supplications during a windstorm

Dua 1

Weak narration

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّيْٓ اَسْاَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا وَاَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا

O Allah! I ask You for its good and I seek refuge in You from its evil.

  1. The author wrote these words himself, keeping in view the meaning of a hadith of Abu Hurairah (RA). The hadith is as follows:

“Abu Hurairah (RA) said that Allah's Messenger ﷺ said: Do not curse the wind, for it is from the mercy of Allah the Most High; it brings mercy and it also brings punishment. But ask Allah the Most High for its good and seek refuge in Allah from its evil” [Sunan Ibn Majah, no. 3727, and the hadith is sahih, and al-Albani graded it Sahih in “as-Sahihah” no. (2756)]

Since this hadith commands that when the wind blows one should ask Allah for its good and seek refuge from its evil, the author on this basis wrote the above wording himself. But this approach of the author does not seem correct, because the wording for this occasion is itself established from the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, as narrated by our mother Aishah (RA); it is the same wording the author quoted next. So, following the Prophet ﷺ, on this occasion one should keep to the words established from the Sunnah.

Note that one route of this same hadith of Abu Hurairah (RA) also reports, along with the command above, the wording “اللّٰهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا، وَنَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا”; see: (as-Sunan al-Kubra of an-Nasa'i, no. 10699). But it is not established, because in its chain there is a narrator “Talq bin as-Samh”, whom Imam Abu Hatim called unknown (Ilal al-Hadith of Ibn Abi Hatim, ed. Sa'd al-Humayyid (5/95)). So on this occasion one should say the detailed wording mentioned in the next hadith of our mother Aishah (RA).

Dua 2

O Allah! I ask You for its good, the good of what is in it and the good of what it has been sent with, and I seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of what is in it and the evil of what it has been sent with.
