When someone says: ” اِنِّيْ اُحِبُّكَ فِي اللّٰهِ “ “I love you for the sake of Allah”, the other person should reply: ” اَحَبَّكَ الَّذِيْٓ اَحْبَبْتَنِيْ لَهٗ “ “May the One (Allah the Most High) for whose sake you love me love you too.”
Hasan, Sunan Abi Dawud (5125), and al-Albani graded it Hasan in his notes on “Hidayat ar-Ruwat” (4/441) no. (4944); see also: as-Sahihah, no. (417), no. (418) and no. (3253).
